ABOUT ME...
Shara Slorstad

My name is Shara (Share-Ah, not Shar-Ah) and I was born and raised in Fort St. James, B.C. by my wonderful parents where I grew up with my two older sisters and many, many pets.
Basically since I can remember I've been around dogs. Our first dog was a Labrador Retriever from the SPCA named Blue. I truly believe it's because of him that I have a soft spot, and some what a biased opinion, for labs, especially black labs. This is most likely also why I fell in love with Coal from the moment I saw him.
Growing up with dogs wasn't simply an option for me, it was a must. I can remember wanting a dog of my very own for what seemed like forever, but couldn't have been too long. Every birthday and Christmas I asked for a puppy of my own, to care for, train and love that was my very own dog. I had my heart set on a German Shepherd Dog, so you can imagine my surprise when for my seventh birthday I was given a little tiny Chihuahua cross Pomeranian puppy. Regardless of her tiny size and obvious exact opposite of what breed I wanted, I loved her to pieces right away.
Anyone who knows me, knows that I have three boys in my life that I absolutely adore. The obvious firs two being Coal and Linkin, and the last being my boyfriend Jared, whom I've been with since the middle of high school. He's not exactly a dog person; more of a cat person, but I think they're slowly growing on him. In fact, when I first got Linkin and Jared realized what a bad dog could really be like, I remember him saying (and I quote) "Coal's my favorite dog"... he can't go back on that now!
I suppose I should explain some of my education, work experience, and education about dogs in general in the biography as well.
I went through the graduation ceremonies at Fort St. James Secondary School in 2005 but did not officially graduate with my class because I didn't have enough credits. I went to Fort Adult Center of Education (FACE) and in 2007 earned my dogwood. In the fall of 2007 I attended Canada West Canine Center (which was my dream since I was 13 years old) where I gained new friends, new experiences, and two certificates; the first is for Obedience Trainer/Kennel Management and the second is Certified Master Trainer. In all I was certified for Basic and Advanced Obedience, Utility, Temperament Testing, Dog Care, Kennel Management, Customer Relations, Personal Protection, Attack and Police K-9, Tracking, Security and Support Dog.

As for work experience, in the summer of 2005 I worked at Apollo Forest Products on Paint Crew (which is exactly as it sounds; painting). In 2006 I began working at Max Internet Technologies Inc. as a desk clerk. The longer I worked there the more my boss was convinced I had other skills as well, especially my artistic skills (art is another very big passion of mine. You can view my Sleeping Dead Girl Artistry website to see some of my artwork, although I warn that the website is rather out of date). I began to take on art projects at Max IT such as posters, cards, and other miscellaneous print jobs and designs that were asked of, as well as business cards, and a few graphics for websites. I also painted a computer case which is now on display (and for sale to those who are interested) at the Max IT store.

In January of 2007 I began planning and putting together things I felt I need to work towards starting up Dog Gone Good Training. In April (2008) I had my first client interested in obedience lessons and so off I went to the Village Office where Dog Gone Good Training became an official, licensed business.
As for Hobbies... besides training dogs (which is more of my career move rather than a hobby now, I suppose) I enjoy many things that I like to fill my spare time with. One of the obvious is building web pages and graphic design. I've only ever had one class that would have taught me anything and that was Graphic Design 10... which didn't actually teach me anything. Everything I know about HTML, CSS, JavaScript (etc) and Photoshop or any other graphics program was self taught or taught to me by my oldest sister.

I also enjoy basically any form of art. I took art class all through high school which introduced me to many different mediums to work with and taught me a few basic skills that I still use to this day. I first started off with pencil sketches which led to ink drawings, then water colour pencil and paintings, sculptures, scrapbooking, charcoal, shirt designs, and computer graphics. Basically if you name it I've either used it or plan to get into it more in the future.

Recently I've gotten into playing guitar. I just bough my first guitar which is a Wensen Electric Acoustic (named Prudence, after The Beatles song). So far I'm enjoying learning to play it a lot and have a lot of fun with it.
